Another new app

Last week i managed to release another small program, called 'aboutsystem' (better name is welcome).
Find on this link for a quick download.
The purpose of the program is to display small information regarding KDE system installed , along with other information.

Release Week

I call this week is 'Release Week' for some reasons.

First at 1 december, i released my first plasmoid(not really the first :) at kde-look.org

Second, at the same date Qt 4.6 was released.

Now i hope my distro will put Qt 4.6 as soon as possible.

Then make my other plasmoid(Keren plasmoid) utilize Qt 4.6.

New plasmoid

I have created new simple plasmoid using python.
I want to learn python, PyQt and PyKDE precisely :).

The plasmoid is utilizing only photo manipulation service to create funny picture.

Currently only Photofunia service is available, hopefully more in the feature.
The initial version only receive local file as input for online manipulation.

But it still has no name :(.

Once the name is decided, i will post it at kde-apps.org.

Past and Future

Many things happened in the past since my last post.

First i will tell the past part:

- me and other family member got influenza for a week or more, which gave me a nice rest effect :)

- i joined kamoso (another kde application for taking picture and record video).

- i got a new designer friend Jarle, thanks for making nice button icons.

And for the future part:

- i'm planning to put keren at kde-apps.org after cleaning some codes as soon as possible.

- and related to keren features, i'm adding thumbnail list view and internal viewer for displaying captured items. As you can see from the screenshot below.

It's august now.
And it's getting hotter here in japan.
Since my last post, i stopped coding and taken some rest.
Due to my body condition which prevented me from seeing computer screen.

And last week i resumed the development of Keren plasmoid.
Somethings getting improvement and other got problem :).

Gstreamer wrapper codes updated. but this broke keren config dialog.
Keren now can record video.
And i'm implementing a list view to display captured and recorded file.

Hope this can be finished soon.

libqtgstreamer

I have committed another update to Keren plasmoid.

The update was basically an upgrade to gstreamer wrapper.
This time i removed my wrapper, instead use libqtgstreamer made by kcall programmer gkiagia.
Simply because his wrapper is a lot better than mine :).

Next week i will do refactoring some codes into better classes.

Update status on Keren plasmoid

Another status update for Keren plasmoid.
This week i tried to revive video display at main window.

I created simple wrapper for gstreamer, it's just a dummy approach :).
Moved and changed simplevideoinput to videodevice class inside wrapper.

Also tried to simplify some logic and removed unnecessary functions.

I think current commited codes can be used for daily life (at least for me :), but expect some bugs.
Also audio recording is not supported yet :)

So to rephase what current codes have:
- Taking picture
- Record video (no audio)
- Change device resolution and framerate, also some color properties

If you have taken your picture and video, please look at you home/.kde directory and find your masterpiece there :)

Config dialog added

It's july now, another month has passed since last post.
Not so many progress, only added config dialog to keren plasmoid.

Now we can select which webcam to use and see it's preview.
Also it's possible now to alter some color properties.

Moving to gstreamer

Since my gstreamer can display video from my usb camera again.
I will replace usb capture function to utilize gstreamer framework.

Finally, i put it at playground.

Keren plasmoid codes now in kde's playground repository.
It still basic though.
Only capture and do nothing :)

I hope next week will have nice progress.

Learning by creating

Apparently learning by creating is the best method for me to learn new things.

Since last 2 months ago, i started to learn new things such as Python, Plasma or KDE development.

My first project was, creating a prayer time plasmoid using python but the progress quite slow now. I stucked at GUI design for this plasmoid.

And now my second project is creating a Keren Plasmoid ( a plasmoid to take a picture from available webcam at your computer).
This still in early stage, but still progressing in fair amount of speed.

Hope i can share some tutorials regarding those projects.
Just call it from newbie to newbie :) also this will help me in the future to put back some knowledge back to my brain.
